I don't know how I didn't know about this place before!

It's like a hidden gem in downtown Anchorage!

They have a really cute outdoor patio with amazing views of Sleeping Lady!

Service is very friendly, but pretty slow.

We ordered the nachos as a table of four and were not disappointed!

They have a parking lot that is free (rare for downtown).

This restaurant is definitely a dive, but is completely worth the trip in. I have been searching for a good salmon chowder while here in Anchorage, and boy did I find a good one!

I was reading through some of the reviews and the one consistent positive at the Slippery Salmon was the salmon chowder. If you go here, you cannot pass over a cup of the salmon chowder.

For the main dish I got half pound of king crab legs with Mac and cheese and the smashed garlic potatoes with gravy. Not going to lie, I was hesitant to eat the potatoes because they didn't appear to be any good, so I ate them last. I'm sure glad I wound up trying them because they were delicious! A very tasty bite of garlic-y potato with brown gravy. The king crab and Mac and cheese were both super yummy, too! The food did take a while to come out, so just be patient. It's worth the wait!

Slippery Salmon is in a funny location.  It's located right next to the bridge that goes over to Government Hill.  You've probably driven by it many times and not even noticed.

How it took me so long to finally visit?  I really don't know!

The best feature of SS, in my opinion:
Open at 5am in the summer.
Open at 6am in the winter.

We don't have many non-chain places to eat in town at 6am, let alone 5am.  Leroy's is the only place I can think of.

I came here for a dark morning breakfast before a hike.  It was great!  There was only one other table and the service was attentive.  I got steak and eggs, which is a benchmark of sorts for breakfast places.  The steak was cooked rare and eggs were perfectly scrambled. The home fries were OK, but I probably would go with hashbrowns next time.  The homefries are of the "fat, short, French fry chunks" variety.  Maybe that's a plus for you, maybe it's a minus.

I don't know where they get their coffee from, or how they brew it, but it was outstanding!  Some of the freshest-tasting drip coffee I've ever had.

Definitely need to try them for their other meals.

A few of my friends bragged in this place so I decided to give it a try. It was hard to find because I didn't expect to be looking in the Ramada Inn and the signage isn't clear but we did finally find it. It's a small spot with several high top and standard tables. They went with a rustic theme using tree trunks and thick slab tops which is kind of cool. It's a seat yourself place so we found a table and the server was over to get drunk orders pretty quick. I settled on the halibut tacos with fries. The tacos were pretty big and the toppings were fresh. What I didn't like is the halibut was fried in a beer batter rather than grilled, Not even offered grilled. The batter was too thick and lacked flavor. While the tacos were just okay, they could be a lot better and more flavorful if the fish was grilled or baked the right way. The fries were the standard prefrozen fries. My son of course settled on meatloaf at a seafood joint but said it was ok too. I really wanted to like this place more. The decor is cool, the waitress was really good and the food came pretty quick but the execution on the fish is lacking. Maybe we can come back and try something else some other time.

A local eats must! Great menu  try all the specials and they're featured on Man v. Food. The private parking is a plus and every member of the staff
